Performance Direct were at Modified Nationals 2011 which is a fantastic weekend packed full of modified motoring action. Alongside the static car displays and stands such as the Performance Direct Insurance quote station were other events such as the Wheel of Death, Bikini Babe Competition, and Monster Truck demonstration. The Slingshot Monster truck crashed on the third run that we were filming, giving the crowd (and me) a bit of a shock as none of us were expecting to see a monster truck crash. Although the driver was a bit dazed and was attended by an ambulance he was okay and seemed to take it all in his stride. In fact his reaction showed it to be a common occurrence for him!! The Monster Truck itself did look a little bit the worst for wear though and had spilled out it’s methanol fuel which needed to be dealt with by fire marshalls. The Slingshot Monster truck is owned and run by Karl Swallow and is powered by a 540 Merlin, est. 1800 horsepower with a COAN 2-Speed transmission. The 2004 Chevy Silverado body sits upona a chassis built by Patrick Enterprises with suspension by RaceSource Stage 1 & 2.
